2nd Annual Party on the Plaza

A great Spartan crowd showed up on Saturday, August 6 as we welcomed around 2,000 attendees to the second annual Party on the Plaza. Our Educational Plaza was filled with families, staff, and community ready to close out the summer and embark on the 2022-23 school year together. Ahead of the first day of school, this event encouraged students and families to come out to complete registration, meet teachers, access schedules, request transportation, and submit technology requests.

On the morning of the event, volunteers packed over 1,000 backpacks and school supplies to give away. During the party, our National Honor Society at Stafford High School were able to provide uniforms for SMSD students from their collection drive. Attendees were able to enjoy talented performances from our mighty Spartan drumline and cheerleaders.

Superintendent Dr. Robert Bostic was joined by City of Stafford Mayor Willis, and SMSD Board President Manuel Hinojosa to kick off the event. Many other elected officials came through to show their support including our local Stafford City Council members and SMSD Board of Trustees. The Stafford City Council and Board of Trustees are the only governing bodies in Texas that work together as a municipal school district. At the event, the team of 15 presented part two of their collaborative "We Are One" video.

Mu Kappa Omega Chapter, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Julia F. Thompson (JFT Charities) brought 365 backpacks and presented a check for $1,280 to SMSD. Costco brought an entire pallet of backpacks that were distributed to 1st graders at the Stafford Elementary School. The International Bible Church provided over 500 backpacks and school supplies for students. In addition, H-E-B partnered with SMSD to provide COVID-19 and other back-to-school vaccinations.

Mr. Pete's Playhouse returned for this year's event with parachute games and story time to keep the youngest Spartans engaged and learning.

This event was made powered by the vision of our district leadership, and the incredibly generous support of vendors and sponsors. In Stafford, we work together and we are one!
